The fine folk at Random House have once again let my scribblings loose on the world.
The first book in my new series, Bureau of Mysteries, is now in stores! Actually, it’s been in stores for about a month now, but I’ve been so busy writing book two in the series that I may have been neglecting this update a little *shifty eyes*.
Here’s the low down:
In the bustling city of Little Obscurity, George Feather lives a fairly uneventful life. That is, until he falls down a chimney and discovers the Bureau Of Mysteries, an eccentric group of investigators and codebreakers who live in between the floors of the Brass Castle Hotel.
After learning that evil Clockwork Octopus Society are planning to wreak havoc on Little Obscurity, George is quickly recruited to help track the villains down. Along with his partner, Imp, George follows the trails of evidence and cracks the codes that each of their suspects leave behind.
Chased by swarms of mechanical insects, overcome by horrible smells and trapped in train tunnels, George and Imp have a gigantic task ahead of them. Will they be able to solve all of the cryptic clues in time to save the city?
The phenomenal cover is the work of Nahum Ziersch, the same insanely talented illustrator who designed the Star League covers. Nahum has also illustrated it and just generally made the whole book look spectacular, but don’t just take my (not biased at all) word for it – see for yourself! And while you’re getting your grubby mitts all over it, you should probably buy it too… I’m saving up for a new 2B pencil.

Check out these awesome Star League cake toppers! When my mum came to visit earlier this year, she had a surprise for me – she’d made icing sugar versions of Jay, Connor, Asuka, Roger, Leigh (and Chu!) and Sam! Isn’t she clever?
Apologies for the less than great quality of the shots, but you can imagine how much better they look in the flesh (er, in the icing sugar?)

Hello, and welcome to my redesigned site! Don’t worry, the octopus tentacle won’t hurt you… I promise it’s very well trained *cough*.
This has been an exciting month – books 5-8 of the Star League series are out in stores now, so if you haven’t picked them up, what are you waiting for?
Next week (Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th) I’ll be hosting a couple of panels at the brilliant A Thousand Words Festival so come along to the Northcote Town Hall and say hi.
